Hey hey! It’s Michael here, hope you’ve been having a great day. 😊
I’ve some awesome updates to share about my indie journey since last time.
WWDC 2024
June is always my favourite month.
WWDC rolls around, we get to play with the fancy new iOS features, and I can plan how my next few months will look like - leading up to iOS 18 this year.
Thankfully this year it seems to be quieter, since a lot of the advertised AI features won’t be coming soon and I wonder how many of them will be included this year.
As a maker it means I can worry less about which new (and buggy) API’s I need to consider adopting in my apps, and focus on improving my apps or creating new things.
I am genuinely surprised at how stable and optimised the initial iOS 18 beta’s are, and the new customizable Control Center looks great!
Also I hope to make it to WWDC25 next year. 🤞
Setapp for Mac
Last month I mentioned how excited I was about being invited to join Setapp for the very first time, with two of my indie apps Focused Work and Ochi joining the new Setapp Mobile store, available to users in the EU.
However, last week Focused Work was added to Setapp for Mac! 🎉
2020 version of me had big hopes of this happening someday, and I’m so happy it finally did. 🎉
It feels like an incredible compliment from the team to invite me to their platform. There are so many great apps on Setapp, and Focused Work is in exceptional company amongst them.
If you’re a Setapp user and have used Focused Work before, I would love if you could please leave a tiny review about one thing you love the most. It would mean the world to me. 🙏
If you haven’t used Setapp before, click this special link here to try out Focused Work on it. (and many other fantastic apps too)
By joining Setapp I have another supplementary revenue stream to complement my App Store revenue - and I’ve already made my first $50! 🚀
Showing up every day
Something I’ve focused hard on lately is being consistent with showing up and sharing what I’m working on every day.
I love writing and sharing things that might help others. But I especially love when I discover inspiring creators doing incredible work, through this.
I’ve tried to be consistent across X / Twitter, LinkedIn, and Mastodon, keeping tabs on progress across my weeks. Here’s how my last six months have looked.
My feed on X and LinkedIn is now strongly maker-focused, which I love so much, and the numbers show that this effort seems to be working.
One of my favourite highlights so far is being inspired by Sebastian Röhl to keep building in public every day, and also by Nika Kotláriková to keep showing up and engaging with likeminded people every day. Really thankful for their vibes. 🙏
BTW; Typefully have an incredible browser extension that cleans your X / Twitter feed right up, that you NEED to try out. “Thanks Mike.”
focusedOS
I recently hit the next big milestone I set for focusedOS; $200 MRR! 🔥
People seem to be loving the app and getting so much value out of it, and that makes me very happy. I think I’ll double my next goal; $400 MRR. Let’s go!
TikTok experiments
I’ve started to create various TikTok’s for focusedOS which has been interesting to explore.
Outside of crafting the important one-liner for the intro, and the content itself, I’ve observed lighting to be quite tricky to get right. (especially since my app is dark and I’m always fighting to avoid seeing myself in the screen reflection 🙈)
I’ve used my old iPhone on a gimbal to record them and noticed the voice quality difference to be HUGE when speaking 5cm away from the microphone vs 10cm.
I feel like I speak well enough to craft good voiceovers, and I’ve never been a fan of the typical TikTok AI sounds, so I might consider getting a proper mic.
Wall of Love additions
focusedOS also received a few incredible shoutouts on YouTube that have helped boost visibility and bring in some nice traffic!
Big thank you to; Francesco D’Alessio @ Keep Productive, Fernando Silva @ 9to5Mac, and Christopher Lawley!
🙏 🙏 🙏
And that’s all, folks!
Well, almost.
I hit two thousand consecutive days of closing my rings on my Apple Watch this past week. That’s pretty cool.
I’ve still more exciting stuff to share but have rambled on enough for today, so I’ll save em for next time.
Thank you so much for reading, see ya around next month! 👋 👋
If you liked this issue, send it to another indie mate!
Cheers, Michael
PS: If you’ve made it this far, Indie App Sales week begins today (organised by Matt Corey), and I’ve submitted focusedOS to it.
Be sure to follow my X / Twitter if you haven’t tried the app out yet for a special deal. 😊
